DESCRIPTION

By blocking 3 f-stops of light from half your image, you can balance your exposure when the foreground is darker than the background – such as shooting landscapes in the mountains. The soft graduation creates a natural blending of light.

Our Plus+ range features 20 layers of nano-coating providing easier cleaning and better protection against water, oil, and scratches. These layers also provide a higher maximum light transmission and a more consistent transmission curve for truer light reduction.

Find your filter size

Inquisitively search lens for diameter symbol. Ø often marks the spot. The diameter you seek may be accompanied by a number – Ø58 or Ø58mm. Look to the side and the front – this precious number is your filter size. Be warned: your lens focal length (e.g. 18-55mm) is not your filter size.

Place flat and screw clockwise

Lovingly behold lens in one hand and place flat on lens. Gently screw clockwise until just firm. Do not over-tighten – that which goes on must one day come off.

Rotate your Soft Graduated ND8 Plus+ so the graduated half of the filter cover the brighter half of your scene. This will help you balance the light in your image so you can better expose the highlights and lowlights.

Another tool for the image maker's kit

Sometimes a new-or in my case, a re-discovered tool, can spark the imagination. While I have used graduated filters in the past, it was mostly when I primarily shot with film and my lenses were generally all prime with 52mm diameter threaded filter mounts. Since migrating to mostly digital capture and using mostly zoom lenses with a 77mm diameter mount, I've been using post production processing to handle extreme variations between shadow/highlight values. I first added a GOBE ND filter a few years ago and have been happy with it, so decided it was time to also add this 77mm graduated filter to the mix. Am delighted thus far as it enables in-camera image modification to reduce extreme shadow/highlight ratios when shooting land/sea/cityscapes at sunrise or sunset. And planting trees by supporting URTH is awesome!

Awesome for landscape photography

What a dream. This filter saves me so much time editing my photos. I've been using it to balance the highlights of the sky with the darker foreground when shooting landscapes – sometimes of the ocean sometimes in the hills. I can capture more detail in the shadows and still get the details of the clouds in the sky too.
